VIDEO: Automechanika Birmingham 2017June 12, 2017
The aftermarket is a vast expanse of companies, some supply OE and therefore have a program that offers direct replacement to consumers, while others will simply offer the alternative.
Drivers will never really get to see the expanse behind a product they hold in their hand, or the effort that goes into the parts on their bill. Yet company after company is involved in the automotive aftermarket, from suppliers to tool manufacturers, research institutions to manufacturing facilities. Every conceivable part of this sector was brought together under one roof, the NEC roof to be exact, at Automechanika Birmingham 2017.
Over 800 exhibitors took to the halls, 70% up on the first event in 2016. Considering that last year’s debut was supposed to fill just one hall, and yet 550 stands were booked as it sold out three times over and ended up across three, the show can be considered a success. For those unaware, Automechanika is a global brand, with a flagship show in Frankfurt and events held all around the world. While the UK has had small regional trade shows, supplied by factor groups or magazines, it has been a long time since the industry has come together as one.
Automechanika allows vehicle technicians as well as buying groups to get together, examine the latest products up close and learn in the numerous seminars held during the three days. There are plenty of equipment suppliers, training colleges and parts companies that make it a key event for garage owners and workshop mechanics to attend. The video above gives a brief highlight of what went on during the show, and there will be a couple more to follow soon.
